Tina To Hike For Shawn and Others with Head Injuries - BC Alpine Ski Association

Shawn has also moved from eating pureed food to eating minced food. He sure does enjoy eating!!

Shawn was able to go home to my parent's house for a few hours last weekend and again this weekend! He was able to walk up the stairs to the living room (with support) and also walked around the house to the back yard.

My brother and sister-in-law (Mike and Colleen) brought their dog, Choice, over to the house to visit with him. Shawn really seemed to enjoy being at home. It was a good change for him from the hospital, as nice as Freeport hospital is.

Shawn continues to work on his walking, stair climbing, and gaining strength in his legs. The physiotherapists started having him stand on his own to work on his balance on Friday. He stood for about 45 sec – 1 min. on his own today!! 🙂

He has also been working on his hand/eye coordination – he has been hitting a tennis ball with a racquet out in the courtyard. He really does work hard, and continues to be very determined!!

I also wanted to mention that I will be participating in the Pikes Peak Challenge this Saturday. It is a hike up Pikes Peak to raise funds for the prevention of brain injury.

Pikes Peak is a 14,110 ft mountain, and the hike will take place on Barr Trail; a 13.5 mile trail that ascends 7400 ft from Manitou Springs (just west of Colorado Springs) to the summit. The money that is raised will help with programs aimed to prevent head and spinal cord injury and support services to improve the quality of life for survivors and their families. It will also help create awareness of life struggles of brain injury survivors and their families, as well as help educate children and adolescents and provide helmets for children who would otherwise go unprotected.

(See www.pikespeakchallenge.com ).

Wish me luck!!! 🙂

(If there is any interest in making a donation, please email me for information)

Once again, thank you for your continued support and prayers for Shawn. The support, emails and visits to Shawn have been amazing. They are more help to Shawn, my family and me than you can imagine. THANK YOU!! 🙂

Take care,
Tina
