Thursday afternoon's dryland session in Apex consisted of a “2-Gate Toonie” race (in the dark, by the looks of it).
Athletes from both the men's and women's fields chipped in a toonie each, and coaches made up the balance of the pot so that each prize came in at $30.00. On the women's side, the winner, after 10 attempts at the “lengthy” course, was Jesse Carmichael (Rossland, BC), speeding in at 3.89 seconds. The men's competition saw some great head to head action as Rob Wasiliew and Jeff Hutton battled back and forth for the winning time. After 10 runs, both were tied at 3.76 seconds. The judges voted and the ensuing ski-off was used to produce a winner. Wasi drew first and put down a time of 3.94. Hutton psyched himself up and managed a 3.88, taking the pot, the title and the glory! Congrats to Jesse and Jeff for their efforts.
