Report from CAST Training Camp, Day 2 – by Alison Leighton, BCST | BC Alpine Ski Association

“We started the day off one-on-one with one of the World Cup girls from the National Team. I skied with Emily Brydon, while Lindsay Kraft skied with Britt Janyk and Kayla Birdgeneau, the invitee from Alberta, skied with Sophie Splawinski. They were helpful and shared what they were working on technically with us during the session. They took us through their daily warm up as we watched and participated. It was a good experience and we had fun with the girls as well. After warm-up we found the Development Team women that we had been working with the day before and continued the rest of the day with them. We learned some new drills and reviewed some more familiar ones. By the time our afternoon session came around, the improvements in our skiing were noticeable to us and our coaches. We were able to make good use of our time on hill and skied a lot of runs. In the evening enjoyed some team bonding while watching the hockey game. The girls have been friendly and are making us feel welcome.
We are having a good time here.”
