SIMARD, FORSYTH TOP-12 AT SOLDEN WORLD CUP GS, ACTON QUALIFIES FOR OLYMPICS - BC Alpine Ski Association



Solden, Austria (October 22, 2005 -Genevieve Simard posted a strong ninth-place finish in the women's season-opening World Cup giant slalom Saturday with Allison Forsyth just three spots behind, while 18-year-old Brigitte Acton qualified for selection on GS team for the Olympics in Turin.

Tina Maze won the race with a two-run combined time of 2 minutes and 24.59 seconds, ahead of reigning Olympic giant slalom champion Janica Kostelic of Croatia, who was runner-up in 2:24.93. Overall World Cup champion Anja Paerson of Sweden finished third, 0.44 back.
