Despite chilly temperatures, BC girls were on fire as they took control of the first of two Mars super G races Thursday at Apex Mountain Resort. Under clear, blue skies, Kelsey Serwa of Kelowna (Big White Racers/OST) had the fastest run of the day finishing first in just one minute and 24.64 seconds. Team mate Elli Terwiel of Heffley Creek (Sun Peaks Alpine/OST) was in hot pursuit, arriving less than 3 tenths behind in 1:24.93 to take the silver medal. It was Victoria Whitney of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club who raced to third place with a time of 1:28.44, winning the bronze medal.
Serwa has been enjoying tremendous success, with four podium finishes to her credit so far this season. When asked about Thursday's race, she reported: “The course was really smooth, but different from last week's Nor Am super G track. This one seemed tighter because they had to fit more gates in and the start was lower down.” She went on to say “I was feeling pretty confident about this race because I had a good experience at the Nor Am. I'm definitely enjoying the speed events these days!
Terwiel was recently selected to participate in a European racing and training opportunity provided by Alpine Canada, where she stood on the podium twice at the Italian National Junior Championships. “I'm feeling really good now that I'm over the jet lag from the trip to Europe,” she reported. “The whole experience was amazing, but I'm glad to be home and racing with my friends again.” Terwiel also said: “I started #1 and I couldn't believe how smooth the course was
