Leighton Gold, Simmerling Silver at Mars Cup Slalom – 9 in Top-15 | BC Alpine Ski Association

It was another exceptional day for BC guys and girls in Panorama.

On day one of slalom competition, BC Ski Team women captured both the gold and the silver – Whistler’s Alison Leighton (WMSC) had a commanding lead after the first run which proved enough to reserve her spot at the top after completing both runs in one minute, 35.89 seconds.

Hot on her heels was team mate Georgia Simmerling of North Vancouver (Grouse/Tyee) whose two-run time of 1:35.98 was good for second place.

BC Team’s Elli Terwiel (Sun Peaks), who was Wednesday’s GS winner, stepped into 5th in the slalom in 1:36.42.

Kelsey Serwa
(Big White), also with the BC Team, skied two solid runs to earn an 8th place finish in 1:38.71.

Rounding out the top-15 were Sandra MacDonald (B2B/Apex) in 13th and Brynne Benbow (B2B/WMSC) who again, started late (74th) and skied into 15th place overall thanks to a lightning fast second run.

In the men’s race it was Wednesday’s winner, Scott Hume of Whistler who lead the BC pack, finishing just off the podium in 4th with a combined time of 1:33.32.

Conrad Pridy (WMSC), the newest member of the BC Ski Team, laid down a blistering second run to move into 9th overall in 1:35.29.  Pridy also took bronze in the Junior category.

Ben Thomsen (BCST/WVSC), who has already shown his strength in the speed disciplines this season, demonstrated his equally sharp technical abilities completing two slalom runs in 1:35.34 to take 10th place.

Slalom racing continues Friday, marking the final day of this Mars BC Cup event.  This is a link to a web page. LIVE TIMING
