BC Alpine Athlete Awards and Bursaries – ONLY 3 DAYS LEFT TO NOMINATE!!
DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS IS FRIDAY, APRIL 10th
*There are still lots of awards and bursaries up for grabs – please take the time to consider nominating.*
The BC Alpine award selection committee will only accept one application per gender from each
club for each athlete award. It is the responsibility of the club to co-ordinate and select which
athlete FROM THEIR CLUB will be NOMINATED for each award.
AWARD NOMINATIONS WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED if submitted via the ELECTRONIC NOMINATION FORM found on BC Alpine’s website.
ATHLETE AWARDS
1. Dave Murray Ski Foundation Bursary
Criteria:
• Awarded to one individual per division based on:
• Financial need
• Athletic ability / Sportsmanship / Leadership
• Coaches recommendation to BC Alpine
• Priority given to J1/J2 age athletes
Award: $750.
About the Award: Founded in 1987 by friends of Dave Murray after a fundraiser.
2. Bob Parsons’ Memorial Fund
Criteria:
• Two individuals who illustrate dedication and leadership to their sport and show a need for
support.
• Priority is given to J1/J2 athletes.
• Financial need
Award: $1,000.00 per athlete.
About the Award: Bob Parsons was the original weasel worker at the Whistler World Cup. The
annual Bob Parsons’ memorial golf tournament is a fundraiser for junior ski racing.
3. Ski Canada Magazine Award
Criteria:
• Kinder Age K2 athletes only
• Financial need
• Potential to rise to the top of ski racing in Canada
About the Award: The Ski Canada Fund is a pool of funds accumulated through commissions paid
on the use of the Bank of Montreal MasterCard. The fund is available for not-for-profit ski organizations
and groups across Canada.
Award: $1000, or $500 per male or female athlete.
4. Cary Mullen Award
Criteria:
• Athlete displaying the best sportsmanlike conduct
Award: trophy for male and female athletes
COACH AWARDS
1. BC “FIS” Coach of the Year
Criteria:
• J1/J2/FIS Club or Zone Coach
• Resident of British Columbia
• Respect for officials, opponents & parents.
• Espouses a philosophy of fair play.
• Demonstrates concern for all-around athlete development
• Presenting a positive public image
• Level 3—High Performance—full certification
• Applies relevant training theory and coaching practice
• Proven capacity to improve team and/or athlete performance
2. BC “Kinder” Coach of the Year
Criteria:
• K1 or K2 Club Coach
• Resident of British Columbia
• Demonstrated respect for officials, opponents & parents.
• Espouses a philosophy of fair play.
• Demonstrates concern for all-around athlete development
• Presenting a positive public image
• Level 2—Development Level—Full certification
• Applies relevant training theory and coaching practice
• Proven capacity to improve team and/or athlete performance
OFFICIALS AWARDS
1. Moira Jaatteenmaki Official’s Award
Criteria:
• A continued dedication to the Official’s program and the sport of ski racing by serving as
a committed BC Alpine Official over several seasons . Due to this committed effort, this person
has enabled ski racing to continue at the highest level in the province of BC; and offer the
participating athletes the best opportunities for advancement in their pursuit of excellence in
ski racing.
2. Zone Official’s Awards (one for each zone)
Criteria:
• Dedication and commitment of a BC Alpine Official (Level I, II, III, IV) during the previous
race season.
Award: Four (4) awards granted – one for each zone: Coast, Kootenay, North & Okanagan
Application: Submit names and letters of nomination directly to the BC Alpine Official’s Chair.
VOLUNTEER AWARDS
1. Volunteer of the Year
2. Mountain Resort of the Year
3. Event of the Year
4. Club Development of the Year
5. Long Term President’s Award
Criteria: Volunteer, Mountain Resort & Event:
• Dedication above and beyond the normal expectations of a volunteer or club.
• Commitment and improvement to the club’s organization
• On and off-hill participation
Criteria: Club Development Award:
• Club has illustrated growth and significant improvement or leadership
Criteria: BC Alpine Long Term President’s Award
• Long term service to ski racing in British Columbia
Winners will be announced at the Awards Banquet on Friday, May 8th, 6:00 PM at Kelowna’s “Bohemian Café” at 524 Bernard Avenue. (more details to follow)
