"After months of number-crunching, position-jockeying and frayed nerves, Canada’s freestyle skiers finally know who will represent the host country at next month’s Vancouver Olympics. The 18-member roster became official Sunday.
"Seven members of the powerhouse ski cross team round out the roster. Kelsey Serwa of Kelowna, B.C., Ashleigh McIvor and Julia Murray of Whistler, B.C., and Danielle Poleschuk of Winnipeg make up the women’s team, while Chris Del Bosco of Sudbury, Ont., Dave Duncan of Golden, B.C., and Stanley Hayer of Calgary will compete in men’s action. Ski cross, which will make its Olympic debut next month, features a mass start and head-to-head racing on a course with turns, bumps, jumps and rolls. CANADIAN OLYMPIC SKI CROSS TEAM ANNOUNCED TODAY IN MONTREAL, QUEBEC (SIRC News)
CONGRATULATIONS to the BC Athletes – and their coaches – who will be representing Canada in the first-ever Olympic Ski Cross competition!
Kelsey Serwa is a Big White Racer who skied on the BC Ski Team and the Canadian Alpine Ski Team before joining the national ski cross team.
Danielle Poleschuk progressed through the ranks of the Fernie Alpine Ski Team and was a member of the BC Ski Team and the Canadian Alpine Ski Team.
Stan Hayer is a former Kimberley North Star Racer, BC Ski Team and national ski team member.
Both Julia Murray and Ashleigh McIvor spent their younger years racing with the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.
Brent Kehl of Vancouver and Willy Raine of Whistler are two BC coaches who are credited with moulding this hugely successful Ski Cross team. Kehl is the former Program Director of the Cypress Ski Club and Raine was the Technical Director of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.
Kudos to Scott Reid of Kimberley, BC, former coach of the BC Women’s Ski Team. Scooter has been looking after those skis and making sure they’re super fast!
Also, congratulations to the conditioning coach of the ski cross team, Dave Ellis. Ellis was raised in Elkford, BC and now resides in Fernie, BC. He is graduate of the University of Calgary and formerly coached with Alpine Canada.
