2010 TORCH RELAY PHOTOS ( / )
Rebecca Bermel of Cranbrook (Kimberley North Star Racer)
Rebecca ran on day 85 and was the last (and youngest) torch bearer in Fairmont. She lit the miner’s lantern that carried the flame to Canal Flats. She was bearer 94 on January 22nd. After running with her coach, Scott Adams, a former Australian Olympian who also carried the torch, Rebecca joined the community school choir for a celebration in Cranbrook.
Brent Prokop of Kelowna (Big White Racers Volunteer)
Brent had the honour of running with the torch on day 88 of the cross Canada tour of the Olympic Flame. He was runner #6 of 210 on January 25th just outside of Osoyoos, BC. Brent plans to attend four school assemblies in his community and ensures that everyone and anyone who wants to can hold and touch the Torch, will be able to. Ilana, his 11 year old daughter captured his torch run with a helmet cam! Click HERE to watch the video.
Austin Llewellyn of Langley (Grouse Tyee Ski Club Racer)
Austin was thrilled to take an overnight road trip to Kamloops to run an 800 meter leg of the relay over the Overlanders Bridge on Thursday, January 28th at 7:45 a.m. Austin and his family found the day to be well orchestrated, "a bit emotional with a really good vibe".
Alix Wells of Prince George (Prince George Ski Club Racer)
Alix was chosen as the “Community Torch Bearer” in Prince George, BC. She carried the torch to the community celebration on January 29th and lit the cauldron on stage in front of about 5,000 spectators. Alix’s photo and story graced the front page of the Prince George Citizen the next morning.
Lachlan Hicks of Revelstoke (Revelstoke Ski Club K2 Racer)
Lachlan was selected to be Community Torchbearer of Revelstoke. On January 26, day 89 of the Relay, he received the flame from past Olympic ski jumper, John McInnes and carried the torch past a crowd of 3-4000 people in the community of 8000 and through a path lined with over 200 elementary students holding paper lanterns before moving onto the stage to light the community cauldron.
Kayla Johnston, Alexander Norman and Emerson Kirby of Kelowna (Big White FIS Racers)
Kayla, Alexander and Emerson, representing alpine racers of the Central Okanagan, carried the Olympic Torch from the Penticton Convention Center on January 25th as the Flame worked its way north to Kelowna. All agreed the experience of placing their mark on Olympic history by taking part in the relay was something they’ll never forget.
Kirsten Reimer of Prince George (Prince George Ski Club racer)
Kirsten was lucky to be chosen as Torch Bearer #65 in Quesnel on Day 92 of the Torch Relay. The torch made it way from Quesnel to Prince George later in the day.
Logan and Dalton Pehota of Pemberton (Whistler Mountain Ski Club racers)
Logan and Dalton still have their Olympic torchbearer experience to look forward to. They will carry the flame in Ashcroft on Saturday, February 6th. Believe it or not, both boys will be at the K2 Provincials in Panorama and will make the 7 to 8 hour journey to Ashcroft with their dad on Saturday, do their torch run and then drive back to Panorama for the final race on Sunday. Only a ski racing family!
Hallie MacLachlan of Fernie (Fernie Alpine Ski Team Racer)
