PANORAMA MOUNTIAN VILLAGE – 2/5/2010 – Don’t miss LIVE TIMING!
K2 Provincial Series 2010 sponsored by Teck
Panorama Mountain and the Windermere Valley Ski Club army of volunteers offered up another great day of super G competition for BC’s K2 athletes. Somehow it was no surprise when local sensation Martin Grasic of the Windermere Valley Ski Club took the men’s super G championship race Friday by over a second.
Grasic completed the course in 57.62 seconds and was followed by Whistler Mountain Ski Club racer Blake Ramsden who grabbed second spot with a time of 58.70. Landing in the third podium spot was Brodie Seger, also of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club, in 58.85 seconds.
"I probably have a bit of a home-hill advantage," admitted a happy, but humble Grasic. "I can’t even count how many times I’ve skied this hill. I could probably ski it blind folded!"
"The conditions today were a little softer, so the course was a bit more difficult to ski," said Grasic. "The course workers did a really nice job slipping, so rather than deteriorating, the track might even have gotten a little better for our second run."
Today it was the men’s turn to race the super G track twice. Again, it was Martin Grasic (WVSC) with the fastest time (57.18). Whistler Mountain Ski Club racers took second and third podium spots with Brodie Seger finishing second (57.90) and Logan Pehota coming in third (58.95).
A familiar face graced the top podium step in the women’s super G contest Friday. Alix Wells of the Prince George Ski Club takes home another gold medal after finishing today’s race in 59.67 seconds. Hallie MacLachlan of the Fernie Alpine Ski Team earned silver in 1:00.25 and Charley Field of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club took the bronze in 1:00.55.
Everyone switches to giant slalom for Saturday’s race and the event wraps up with a final GS on Sunday.
