KAL Tire K1 Westerns – Concussion Management and Awareness Presentation by Dr. Brian Hunt
BC Alpine and the Vernon Ski Club will host a Concussion Management and Awareness session for coaches and parents of K1 children at this weekend’s KAL Tire K1 Westerns at Silver Star Mountain Resort.
This FREE presentation will take place at 4 P.M. on Saturday, February 19th at the Chilcoot Conference Centre, Silver Star (right before the banquet and volunteer appreciation event). We know this is a busy time for everyone at the race, but what a fantastic opportunity to learn more about a subject that is so important in our sport!
Dr Brian Hunt is a neurosurgeon from North Vancouver with extensive experience in the field of concussions, working with professional athletes from organizations like the Canadian Alpine Ski Team and the BC Lions. Dr Hunt is also a co-director of “Think First”, a national non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of brain and spinal cord injuries.
Dr Hunt will conduct a power point presentation informing coaches and parents of the following:
– Concussion and the impact on the brain
– Symptoms
– Other measurement tools
– Return to activity protocols
– Mouth guards
There will also be a question and answer period.
For coaches, the CSCF has approved this forum for one risk management credit. To qualify, you will need to provide your member number to John Armstrong (VSC Program Director) at the presentation.
Hope to see you there!
