Hume and Terwiel bring home Gold for BC at Mars Cup GS | BC Alpine Ski Association

Our BC girls were a dominant force on the giant slalom course Wednesday. BC Ski Team’s Elli Terwiel (Sun Peaks) led by well over a second after the first run and no one was able to nudge her from the top podium step. Terwiel sealed the deal in two minutes, 13.8 seconds, while team mate Alison Leighton (WMSC) finished just off the podium in a total of 2:15.41.

Georgia Simmerling (BCDT/Grouse Tyee) and Victoria Whitney (BCTG/WMSC) took 7th and 9th places respectively.  Watch out for Brynne Benbow (B2B/WMSC) who was racer #53 out of the start and climbed her way to a 10th place overall finish in 2:18.31! Rounding out the top-15 was Sandra MacDonald (B2B/Apex) competing in her first race since recovering from a knee injury that kept her out all last season. MacDonald was 15th in 2:18.70.

In the men’s race, it was Scott Hume of Whistler who held onto the top spot with a combined time of 2:08.32 ahead of three racers from New Zealand who made a valiant, but unsuccessful attempt to topple him. Also landing in the top-15 with his best GS finish so far this season was BC Ski Team’s Jonathan Hadley (WMSC) who sat 10th after the first run and 14th to close the day with a two-run time of 2:10.92.
