The Teck Open Speed Camp and super-G race returned to Panorama Mountain Resort from February 19–22, delivering four days of fast, fair, and progressive racing on the Old Timer run.
Sun and overcast conditions combined with a firm, race-ready surface to create an ideal training and competition environment. The objective of the speed block was to provide athletes with safe, structured exposure to super-G, allowing them to build confidence, discipline, and race execution skills while completing every run safely.
Marking the first U16 super-G event in the province in two years, the camp welcomed 140 athletes from across British Columbia, along with one Alberta club, Team Panorama. Many athletes travelled significant distances to take part in the opportunity.
Days one and two focused on progressive super-G training, including terrain familiarization, speed comfort, section training, and full-course runs. Days three and four transitioned into race days, where athletes showcased impressive progression and skill development—particularly on “long boards”—over the course of the four-day block.
The hard, fast snow surface held up exceptionally well throughout the event, ensuring fair and consistent conditions for all athletes. The combination of progressive training and racing provided a valuable opportunity for athletes and coaches to (re)familiarize themselves with the concepts, techniques, and strategies required in the exciting discipline of super-G.
BC Alpine extends its thanks to the dedicated volunteer team who made the event possible, including Chief of Race Jim Brewington, Chief of Course Craig Rusnak, Chief of Timing James Ritchie, Race Administrator Judy Dickson, and Chiefs of Volunteers Marina Perry and Nancy Christie.
