Performance Academy for student-athletes to launch this week in Squamish

Join Us for the Official Launch of CMA’s Performance Academies

Coast Mountain Academy now offers high-level programs in Academics, Arts, and Athletics.

Please join us on January 9, 2014 at 7:00pm at Quest University Canada in the Multi-Purpose Room on the lower level of the University Services (Cafeteria) Building for the official launch of Performance Academies in:

Soccer
Ice Hockey
Music
Dance
Elite Performers

Coast Mountain Academy developed these Performance Academies to meet the needs expressed by the Sea-to-Sky community.

CMA provides customized training opportunities for students with dedicated interests. We endeavour to challenge our students through specialized Academic, Arts and Athletic Academies as they strive to reach their highest potential.

The Head Instructor of each of the Performance Academies has been selected for their exceptional skill, knowledge and accomplishments. Just as significant as these is their commitment to engaging and inspiring teaching.

“A sport taken to competitive levels in high school places great demands on students. We want to provide an environment that nurtures focus, resilience and a passion to excel – critical characteristics required by successful students and young adults entering the highly competitive post-graduate world,” says David Baird, CMA’s Head of School. Having played soccer, hockey and rugby at the university level, Baird has a strong background in the start-up and administration of high-level sports academies. He welcomes the addition of elite coaches and instructors to the CMA instructional team.

Through Performance Academies, our vision for excellence in education is carried beyond the indoor classroom and onto the fields, rinks, snow, and studios where we nurture students’ resiliency, tenacity, and character.

In pursuit of their passions, CMA students are taught to see a world of opportunities and potential.

Panorama to host FIS Keurig Cup – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – note new dates!

PLEASE NOTE NEW DATE AND LOCATION OF FIS KEURIG CUP RACE

The FIS Keruig Cup race event that was originally scheduled for Red Mountain Resort, February 1 – 4, 2014 has been moved to Panorama Mountain Village and will now take place January 23 – 26, 2014.

We all know the Windermere Valley Ski Club puts on a great event, but they urgently need more volunteers. They offer free shared accommodation and lunch every day, as well as some of the best après-ski fun around! There are positions available in just about every role – big and small – on and off the hill. Parents planning to attend the races are encouraged to help out!

Western Canada Open Ski Cross Series, 1st race runs Jan 18-19 at Big White

Big White Ski Resort – Announcing the Western Canada Open Ski Cross Series CLICK FOR RACE NOTICE

The Big White Racers Ski Club has been collaborating with BC Alpine and Alberta Alpine to put together an open ski cross series so that existing ski club members as well as members of the public can experience the exhilarating thrill of skiing down the course in groups of 4. The series consists of 4 races (Big White Jan 18-19, Lake Louise Feb 1-2, Prince George March 8-9, and back to Lake Louise Mar 22-23). The first day will involve training and qualification runs; the second day will be set up in race heats of 4 in a knock-out format. There will be a consolation round so every racer will get at least 2 races.

All ski clubs in BC and Alberta can participate; we are hoping to have representation from at least one ski club from Washington State as well. Stanley Hayer, former Olympian Ski Cross racer, will be bringing his Alberta Ski Cross team to compete before hitting the NorAm circuit. The Big White Racers Ski Club is proud to announce that Coach Dustin Koepke will be leading Big White Racer’s ski cross team in the challenge. Two athletes born in 1999 and 2000 competing in the series will be eligible to represent BC in the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.
