Following the recent pre-season training camp in South America, the men’s BC Ski Team is making a coaching change, with Jonathan Hadley considering a return to school.

“I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Jono for his tenure with the BC Ski Team,” said men’s head coach Brandon Dyksterhouse. “His impact over the last 18 months is second to none and his presence will surely be missed both on and off the hill. His passion for life and love of skiing is something that will carry on with the team as we assume business as usual. It was with great pleasure that I was able to work alongside Jonathan and I wish him only the best in his future endeavors.”

Former Quebec ski team coach Jean-Pierre Daigneault, has been hired for the vacant position after Hadley’s departure, and will assume responsibilities as men’s assistant coach on November 1st.
“JP is an incredible coach and we look forward to having him join the team,” Dyksterhouse said. “His passion for ski racing and knowledge of high performance skiing will be a great injection to our group.”

Here are just a few of the achievements and qualifications that Daigneault brings with him to BC Alpine:
1989 – 2nd in Giant Slalom, Canadian Juvenile Championships (Smither, BC)
– 7th in Giant Slalom, Pinocchio Cup (Abetone, Italia)
1993 – World Junior Championships (Monte Campione, Italia)
1994 to1997 – Captain, Dartmouth College Ski Team
2004 to 2010 – Coach at Green Mountain Valley School (Waitsfield, VT)
2010 to 2012 – Head Coach of the men's Québec Provincial ski team (four athletes named to Prospect group in two seasons)
Also, JP is fluent in both English and French and during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games he provided live race commentary at the Whistler Creekside venue!

2012-13 KIDS' SNOWPASS GOES NATIONAL
Canada's Grade 4 & 5 Students Can Ski and Snowboard Free Across Canada
It's Canada's best ski and snowboard deal… and for the first time, it's accessible across the country. The Canadian Ski Council's SnowPass provides FREE skiing and snowboarding for Canadian kids in Grade 4 and Grade 5. New this winter, kids can use their SnowPass at participating ski areas anywhere in Canada.
"This is so exciting for us," explains Patrick Arkeveld, Canadian Ski Council (CSC) President and CEO. "In the past, SnowPass holders could only use it in the region in which they lived. Now they can use it anywhere. Which means, if they live in Ontario and are vacationing in Quebec, Alberta or B.C., they can ski or ride free there, too."
How It Works: The Canadian Ski Council's SnowPass gives kids in grades 4 and 5 (born in 2002 or 2003) up to three free coupons for lift tickets at each participating ski area… all for a one-time administration fee of $29.95, including taxes. There are 149 participating ski areas across the country. If a child skis three times at each participating resort… that's a lot of free skiing.
Applying is Easy: Online applications are now available at www.snowpass.ca. In November, SnowPass applications will also be distributed inside Sport Chek stores across Canada. Or, if you're bound for the Toronto Ski, Snowboard and Travel Show (October 11-14, 2012) your child can sign up on the spot (be sure to bring proof of age or grade). Once an application is complete, a SnowPass will be sent straight to you starting mid-November. The SnowPass season starts December 1, 2012.
Now in its 16th year, the CSC's SnowPass program has given more than 500,000 Canadian kids opportunities to ski or snowboard free. This season, the CSC is pleased to work with its 2012/2013 sponsors: Sport Chek, Ripzone and Powder Room. For more information, visit www.snowpass.ca.

BC Alpine's 2012 Annual General Meeting – Everyone is welcome!!
DAVE ELLIS, Athletic Director for Canada Ski Cross and former Sports Science Director for Alpine Canada, has been instrumental in the development of alpine ski racing and ski cross both domestically and at the World Cup level. The Fernie, BC native applied his sports science knowledge and research to the domestic ski development manual Aim2Win, and is well versed in the Long Term Athlete Development model that is the cornerstone of all alpine ski programs in the country.
Since Dave took the reigns at Canada Ski Cross in 2008, he has been developing a long-term strategy for the sport of ski cross and the creation of an integrated approach that meshes directly into the alpine development stream and, most importantly, is FUN and SAFE for all developing skiers.
BC Alpine welcomes Dave to our annual meetings in Vancouver and looks forward to working with him and his staff in integrating alpine skiing’s newest, and arguably most exciting, discipline…ski cross!
