Sun Peaks is set to host the 2018 Hub International Nancy Greene Festival!
On March 23rd & 24th more than 550 young ski racers, ages 5 through 12, will descend on Sun Peaks Resort for this fun-filled two-day event. While most of the racers are coming from clubs across BC, we are excited to welcome some participants from the Yukon and Alberta this year!
Festival organizers and volunteers have been working very hard to make this event fun and memorable for the young athletes and their families. Ski racing and showing off their skills in a fun and friendly environment are what the event is all about. Competition will take place over two days, with a Dual Glalom race and skills events including Moguls, Speed, Jump and a modified Ski Cross.
Each evening will wrap up with awards presented by Nancy Greene for the best performance in each category!
Don't forget to meet Chris the Clown, who will be on hand to show off his clown antics both on and off the slopes.
Sun Peaks Alpine Club looks forward to seeing you next weekend!

Last weekend the "Finals" of the Western Canada Ski Cross Series were held on the TELUS Park ski cross course at Big White. Big White was the final stop in a series of races across the West for athletes ages 12 and older. The TELUS Park ski cross track consists of natural and artificial features such as banked turns, doubles, rollers, wootangs and aztecs. What truly sets the sport apart from other skiing disciplines is the fact that there are four skiers competing in the track at the same time (similar to motocross). This exciting sport made it’s Olympic debut at the Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010. Approximately 120 young athletes from BC, Alberta and Washington, including the host team from Big White Ski Club, raced on the exceptional track with a number of podium finishes. Course training took place on Friday while racing commenced on Saturday and continued until Sunday afternoon and offered some great spectator entertainment. Ned Ireland from the Canadian Ski Cross Team was on hand to present the awards. Other Big White Ski Club alumni who have gone on to the Canadian Ski Cross Team include World Cup Team member Ian Deans and 2018 Olympic gold medalist Kelsey Serwa. (Huge shoutout to Todd and Sharon Cashin from the Big White Ski Club for compiling all the news, results and photos from this fantastic event!)
