Dear Ski Family,
It is with great excitement that I am entering the position as new General Manager for BC Alpine. I believe this sport offers a unique community, and I am humbled to be going into this role where I, together with the ski family, can strive to grow and further develop the sport that we all love, alongside our passion for the mountains and the outdoors.
BC Alpine is a strong organization with a long, successful history at both grassroots and elite levels. The path towards building 'skiers for life' and world cup athletes is something that will always be our goal, and we will work to make that road clear and accessible. It all depends on how excellent we are as clubs, coaches, volunteers, officials and community builders, as well as how we continue to live our great values. It is an honour to be able to work with this as our mission.
Safe to say, exciting times ahead!
I would like to take the opportunity to encourage you to participate at this year’s Member Summit and Annual General Meeting in Kelowna. That is where we all can learn from each other, point out the direction for the organization and decide how to best grow and work to ensure a great future for alpine skiing in BC and Canada. It is also a great opportunity for me to get to know you and learn more about the ski community here in BC.
I look forward to meeting you in Kelowna, or on a hill somewhere in BC when the snow falls.
My door is always "open", please feel free to introduce yourself anytime!
Best,
Anders Hestdalen
General Manager
BC Alpine Association

On behalf of BC Alpine’s board of directors I am pleased to announce that Anders Hestdalen has been appointed General Manager of the BC Alpine Ski Association.
Anders comes to our organization with a strong knowledge of sports and management. He possesses experience as an elite athlete and has worked at the National Sports Organization level in two different sports. Most recently he served as Director of Sports for the Norwegian Wrestling Federation and led the team in achieving a number of significant goals. In the six years prior he was employed by the Norwegian Alpine Ski Federation as a strength and conditioning coach with a special focus on high performance athletes.
In addition to Anders’ sport and coaching experience he holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Oslo, an Elite Coaching Degree from NTNU University, and recently completed the Executive Master of Management degree at BI Business University. He is now looking forward to applying his years of education, working knowledge of athlete development, and experience in the ski industry to the continued growth and success of BC Alpine.
The board of directors' search committee has worked diligently since March to ensure that an extensive and professional search process was employed to identify suitable candidates for the role of General Manager. We believe that we have found the right person to provide the executive leadership to build on our strong track record of success. Anders has a clear understanding of the challenges and complexities of modern sports organizations and is familiar with current governance practices.
Anders succeeds CEO Bruce Goldsmid, who stepped down August 31st after 37 years of service to BC Alpine. We congratulate Bruce on a long and successful career during which he actively supported the development of thousands of athletes, coaches and volunteers in British Columbia.
Anders formally starts his new role as General Manager this week. He is joining us at a critical time in the season as we prepare for our Member Summit and Annual General Meeting in late September, meetings with Alpine Canada Alpin, and preparations for the Peak to Peak fundraiser in November. Anders and his wife reside in Vancouver and he will work out of the BC Alpine office. We look forward to working with him. Please join me in welcoming Anders to the team.

After 37 years at BC Alpine I will be leaving my position at the end of August. It has been an honour and a privilege to enjoy a career in the sport I love. Over the years I have been amazed by the passion of our coaches, athletes and volunteers.
Sport depends on the strength of its volunteers and we all know the huge time commitment required in this sport. I would like to sincerely thank every volunteer who has stood on the hill, or in the race office, for their time and dedication and for allowing countless athletes to follow their dreams. Your contributions are simply priceless.
I also want to thank the thousands of coaches I have worked with over the years for their expertise and commitment to our youth. You have led by example, and with skill and persistence have helped develop great skiers and even better people. Your impact lasts a lifetime!
And we couldn't do what we do without the generous support of all our sponsors. Thank you for believing in BC Alpine and helping young people achieve their goals and reach their potential in skiing and in life.
I leave BC Alpine knowing that we will continue to thrive. Our staff are totally committed to making BC Alpine the best provincial sport governing body in the country and I am honoured and humbled to have spent this time with such a dedicated team of individuals.
It has been hard work and a ton of fun! I hope to see you on the slopes and I will be volunteering at as many races as I can.
Thank you all for your support over the years.
Bruce Goldsmid
"Ex" CEO of BC Alpine
P.S. If you can't find me on the snow, you might catch me riding too fast down a hill or floating on a river somewhere 🙂
