The Smithers Ski and Snowboard club is pleased to announce that they have hired a new Alpine Head Coach for the 2016-17 ski season. Larry LeGear a Canadian Ski Coach Federation level 3 coach and NCCP level 4 comes to us from Toronto Ski Club where he spent the last 6 years as their U14 program coach.
With over 20 years’ experience coaching in the ski industry Larry brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our club. Larry will help continue to grow the club and help develop a snowsports program where by our participants learn to ski and are provided with opportunities to train and compete.
Larry has seen success in moving athletes from the club level to the provincial and national levels. Larry’s experience and approach is exactly what the board of directors was looking for. “We are extremely excited to welcome Larry to the club and the Bulkley Valley. Not only did we want a highly skilled coach but also someone that could take the reins and make an immediate impact.” We look forward to working with Larry when he starts in October.
Larry is also excited to get to work and lay down the ground work for future generations. “I look at this as a huge opportunity to work with the Club, Northern Zone and BC Alpine to move the club forward and become leaders in the sport.”
“I would like to thank Smithers Ski and Snowboard club for giving me this opportunity”
We also would like to recognize two former coaches that have been pillars in the club and that both have helped get us to where we are today. Over the past 4 years we have continued to see an increase in numbers within our club and both Jan Wenglin – Program Director and Warren Pali – Snowboard Head Coach were a big part of that growth. We want to thank them both for their years of service and want to wish them the best as they move on. Congratulations to Jan as the newly announced Alpine head coach for Canada Snowboard.
Sincerely,
Smithers Ski and Snowboard Club
Board of Directors

With very heavy hearts…and many sweet memories…we ask you to join us in sending sincere condolences to the family of Jenn Voss, much decorated and valued race volunteer from the Hemlock Ski Club. Jenn lost her courageous battle with cancer last week and will be greatly missed in our community and beyond. Jenn's husband Jan has been a pillar of strength for Jenn and their two daughters Kelsey and Katrina. Jenn's love of life and passion for all things outdoors were an inspiration to everyone who knew her. In the last 4 years she has been recognized and awarded for her countless contributions to ski races around our province. She was still working at races until the end of the 2016 season!
