Robinson to Unify Northern Alpine Zone

Former BC ski team coach Jeff Robinson gets set to take new post as North Zone Development Coach.
A new era is about to begin in the North for the BC Alpine Ski Association as former BC ski team men's coach Jeff Robinson joins forces with BC Alpine and the Northern Alpine Ski Zone to take on the role of Northern Zone Development Coach.

Robinson, a Prince George native, will wear many hats as the newly appointed North Zone Development Coach. Robinson's focus will be to assist BC Alpine in the delivery of top quality performance programs in the North concentrating on the grassroots entry-level Alcan Nancy Greene Ski League and the stepping stone to the BC Alpine Juvenile programs.

Also a former BC Ski Team coach and athlete, BC Alpine's Program Director, Gordie Bowles will be in Prince George this weekend to help launch Jeff Robinson in his new role and update the North zone on BC Alpine initiatives.

“Jeff has the knowledge and experience required to bring the North Zone ski clubs back among the provincial elite,” said Bowles. “These clubs have produced top-level athletes in the past, some that have gone onto the provincial and national teams.”

“Current ski racers Sean Cochrane (Prince George Ski Club), Brian Bennett (Lightning Creek Ski Club) and Megan Kidston (Timberland Ski Club) have all reached the elite FIS level and are showing promise to reach the national ski team,” said Bowles. “But the attrition at the younger levels is lower than it should be in the North clubs.”

“We're very fortunate to have Jeff in this role and are confident that he can assist the clubs in reaching their potential.”

Robinson, a 3M Coach of the Year recipient, is excited about the opportunities and the challenges that lie ahead, “We have a lot of really keen people involved in the North and I'm anxious to get to work re-building and restoring programs and continuity.”

Robinson's responsibilities will also extend to include working with the Northern Zone FIS Team, K1 (11-12 years old) and K2 (13-14 years old) athletes. “It's about getting the right people in the right positions and training them on how to move forward,” said Robinson. “Rallying the clubs and increasing exposure and knowledge is the focus of a long term plan for growth in the Northern Zone.”

BC Alpine is committed to bringing to our communities fun, challenge, and opportunities for personal excellence through participation and competition in alpine ski racing.
