Whistler Cup has a history of showcasing future stars, including Americans Lindsey Vonn, Julia Mancuso and Mikaela Shiffrin, as well as Slovenia’s Tina Maze, Italy’s Christof Innerhofer and Austria’s Nicole Hosp, Anna Fenninger and Mathias Meier. Many of Canada’s biggest stars have also competed on this stage, including Marielle Thompson, Kelsey Serwa, Jan Hudec, Erik Guay, Robbie Dixon, Britt and Michael Janyk and Manuel Osborne-Paradis.
“The Whistler Cup is an excellent opportunity to race in your own backyard against your peers at the international level,” explained World Cup star Manny Osborne-Paradis. “This race gives kids a chance to see the diverse competition that exists in Europe and other countries. Many have used this experience to help them move to the next level and have gone on to compete on the World Cup.”

The inaugural Whistler Cup was held in 1993 and is the brainchild of Max Meier, parent of a young racer at the time. Meier and co-founders Joze Sparovec and Jim Yeates were inspired by the famed Italian international juvenile race “Trofeo Topolino”. Whistler Cup has grown in stature and influence over its 25 years, and its successes are celebrated by Whistler Blackcomb and the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.

Competition continues through to Sunday.

Teck Coast Zone Finals not hampered by snow and fog at Mt. Washington

Dylan Stevens (Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club)

"The Coast Zone Finals went really well despite some crazy spring weather, said John Trimmer, Mt. Washington Ski Club Program Director. "When I first looked out on Saturday I wouldn’t have believed we would ever have raced…. but the weather subsided, we hit the snow with salt and the day ran really well! I love duals, and the pro jumps just add to the experience! Weather cooperated even better on Sunday! We prepared the surface and created a great race for the whole field. Big thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard!"

Applegath, Blaser double U16 Gold at Teck Okanagan Zone Finals, Revelstoke

"The Zone Finals Race in Revelstoke was a lot of fun. I had some great solid runs in both GS and SL, and was very pleased with winning both of the events. I really enjoyed this event since most racers from our club (U12 – U16) all were there, and it was a great way to finish the season together with the entire Apex Ski Team. As for my season, it was pretty awesome. It all started with the U16 Rising Star training Camp at Panorama, which set me up to a great early start and also for the first U16 Teck Race at Sun Peaks. I qualified for the U16 Nationals, which was an amazing experience, and really neat to meet Racers from all across Canada. I would like to thank my Coach Jorgen Anderson! He puts a lot of energy and time in to each individual racer to connect and find the best way to work with them. Also a big thank you to all the BC Coaches at the U16 Nationals, they were great, had lots of good info and support, and were fun!"  Devin Blaser, Apex Ski Club U16 athlete

Devin Blaser

“After my first year in U16, I’ve experienced a lot. In U16 there can be a lot of pressure because of making nationals or even just because every race is provincial. I have achieved so much more than I thought I would this year, with results, my technical improvement, and becoming more confident in all disciplines! Going to Revelstoke was a fun race to ski! It was great skiing with some of my closer friends, but we still had lots of competition at this race because our zone does well at other races. I have so many people to thank, including my parents for making everything possible, and my coaches Montana & Bill. They are so encouraging and I can tell they love skiing as much as I do. At this race and every race there are so many amazing volunteers that us ski racers don’t thank enough!! I have an amazing support system through skiing and I have lots of people in the sport who look out for me. I couldn’t have ended the season a better way.” Brynn Applegath, Sun Peaks Alpine Club U16 athlete
