In a field packed with Olympic gold medallists, World Cup winners and a World Champion, Britt Janyk led four Canadian Alpine Ski Team racers into the top-10, finishing second in the season opening Nor Am Cup giant slalom race Wednesday.

Janyk, the reigning Europa Cup and Canadian GS, super-G and combined champion, led after the first run by half a second over Austrian Nicole Hosp. But Hosp, the 19 year-old co-winner of the World Cup season opener in Soelden last month, made up the difference to win in 1 minute, 52.35 seconds, .15 ahead of Janyk.

“I'm happy with second place in a really strong field,” said Janyk, 22, of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club. “It gives my confidence a bit of a boost to have two strong runs in a race with a lot of World Cup women.”
