We listened with silent anticipation as IOC president Jacques Rogge spoke. “The International Olympic Committee has the honour of announcing that the 21st Olympic Winter Games in 2010 are awarded to the city of Vancouver,” Silence turned to cheers of approval and relief as crowds of enthusiasts in Vancouver and Whistler saw the dream coming true.

Vancouver beat South Korea 56-53 on the second ballot, with 55 votes needed to win. On the first ballot, Pyeongchang had 51 votes, just three short of victory. Vancouver was second with 40 votes and Salzburg third with 16. Almost all the European votes went to Canada in the second ballot.

BC Alpine would like to congratulate the Canadian Olympic Bid Committee and all the 2010 supporters and sponsors for a job well done and an absolutely thrilling outcome! We look forward to working together to help host the best Olympic Winter Games ever!!
