First Reports From Chile and our Provincial Team Athletes | BC Alpine Ski Association

The breathtaking Inca Lake is the setting for the resort of Portillo. The far end of the lake offers amazing skiing for those willing to put on the touring skis. From this area, those who venture into the peaks are rewarded with an incredible view of Aconcagua (22,814ft) which is to the right of the range in this photo.

All the athletes have adapted well to the elevation of Portillo, which sits at 9000 ft at the Hotel and just under 10,000 ft down to 8,000 ft on the training runs.

Men's Coach, Dale Stephens, had this to say about the conditions in Portillo… “We had another excellent day today, as the weather and snow continue to cooperate. Skies are clear tonight which means we should have great training again tomorrow. We have been very lucky with the weather so far!”

To date, the Men's and Women's Teams have had three excellent days of GS training, and will move into SG tomorrow. The SG track has been prepared and all the athletes are looking forward to a “little wind in the face”, according to Women's Coach, Nancy O'Neill.
