In contrast to the warm, sunny skies that greeted participants at the Mars Canadian Juvenile Championships for Monday's opening ceremonies, Tuesday started cloudy, and developed into a snowstorm and poor visibility high on the mountain, forcing organizers to postpone the Championship Super G race to Wednesday, March 24th.
The forecast calls for continued snow on Tuesday, easing off by Wednesday. At the time of cancellation, race co-chair Warren Mackie said the weather would keep organizers and volunteers busy over the next 24 hours.
“It looks like the weather's going to tease us for the rest of the day, with periods of improving conditions followed by more heavy snow,” said Mackie.
Wednesday's Super G was originally planned as a non-championship race, but will now be counting as part of the Championships action. Organizers will
make a decision on whether to hold back-to-back Super Gs Wednesday, or to simply drop the non-championship race, depending on weather and snow
conditions.
The course, which had softened substantially under the warm sun on Monday, benefited from the cooler temperatures. Course crews are expecting the course to be in excellent condition for Wednesday's race.
