Clear, sunny skies and crisp temperatures greeted racers and onlookers Wednesday as the Mars Downhill races got underway at Apex Mountain Resort near Penticton, BC.
The women were first out of the start gate with Kelly McBroom of Banff, Alberta, taking a commanding lead in a blistering time of one minute, 23.25 seconds. Alison Leighton (Whistler) of the BC Ski Team crossed the finish line in 1:24.55 to finish second.
