Twelve athletes were named to the men's and women's Provincial ski teams and training groups for the 2005/2006 season, announced following the recent BC Alpine Ski Association general meeting in Kamloops.

Robbie Dixon, 20, (North Vancouver/Whistler Mountain Ski Club) and Danielle Poleschuk, 19, (Fernie, BC/Fernie Alpine Ski Team), both veterans of the BC Ski Team, have been selected by Alpine Canada Alpin to join the national ski team summer Development Training Group. The group consisting of 18 high potential athletes from across Canada is seeking to be named to the Canadian Development Ski Team. They will join the Canadian Alpine Ski Team's 17 senior members for a summer of dryland training at the University of Calgary, followed by on-snow training camps (men in Chile and women in Switzerland) starting at the end of August. Final development team selections will be made on October 30, 2005.

Scott Hume of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club and long time member of the BC Ski Team is committed to his goal of achieving national team status and is exploring options to study and race next season at an NCAA college in the USA.

Returning to The Women's BC Ski Team under the guidance of head coach Nancy O'Neill of Fernie are Alison Leighton (Whistler Mountain Ski Club), Lindsay Kraft (Vernon Ski Club) and Danielle Robson (Whistler Mountain Ski Club).

Named to the Men's BC Team – coached again this season by Dale Stephens of White Rock and Glenn Thomsen of Invermere – are Dustin Fraser (Mt. Washington Ski Club), Matthew Holler (Whistler Mountain Ski Club), Ben Chaddock (Whistler Mountain Ski Club) and Trevor Conroy (Whistler Mountain Ski Club). A Men's Training Group has been selected and the following five athletes have been invited to join the men's provincial team for the summer/fall training period: Ben Thomsen (Windermere Valley Ski Club), Rob Wasiliew (Vernon Ski Club), Jonathan Hadley (Whistler Mountain Ski Club), Conrad Pridy (Whistler Mountain Ski Club), James-Douglas (JD) Maclean (Whistler Mountain Ski Club).

Further to the provincial team selections, BC Alpine also announced its FIS B2B Development training group. The B2B program, in its second season, will consist of four ski camps in British Columbia, Oregon (USA) and Europe as well as three fitness camps and a full-time dryland training program. The objective of the B2B (Best with the Best) program is to increase fitness levels of our top athletes and to maximize their time on snow in the preparation period. The coaching staff, including Glenn Thomsen of Invermere, Andrew Lambert of Vancouver and a third BC Alpine club coach (different club coach at each project) will focus on improving the athletes' skill levels and fitness so they are better prepared for the competitive season. A total of 13 athletes from all corners of the province have been named to the 2005/06 FIS B2B Program, which will run from May through November 2005.
