ROB BOSINGER (1966-2005)
Calgary, Alberta (May 20, 2005) – It is with great sadness that Alpine Canada Alpin announces the sudden death of Rob Bosinger, a former member and coach of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team.
Born in Calgary on May 11, 1966, Rob was a member of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team for 7 years and a member of the Team's coaching staff from 1996 to 2000.
Prior to devoting himself to coaching with the Banff Mountain Academy, the Women's Regional development team, and the Canadian Alpine Ski Team's speed team, Rob excelled as a World Cup racer, skiing to a career best 7th place finish in the Beaver Creek World Cup downhill in 1988.
“This is a tremendous loss for the ski family,” said Max Gartner, Chief Athletic Officer for Alpine Canada Alpin. “Rob was an extremely valuable member of our coaching staff,” added Gartner who worked with Rob in the late 1990's for the Canadian Alpine Ski Team. “His calming influence was valued by both the athletes and the staff. In particular, as an ex high performance athlete, he had a unique way of communicating with the athletes to help them reach their peak performance. He will be greatly missed” concluded Gartner.
In addition to being currently employed in the IT department for Shell in Calgary, Rob coached the Banff Alpine Racers on weekends.
“Throughout his overly short life, Rob remained active in the ski world, continuously giving back to the sport he had cherished as an athlete and as a coach,” said Ken Read, President for Alpine Canada Alpin. “Having raced and coached at the local, provincial, national, and international levels, Rob was not only knowledgeable but he was also extremely passionate. While his contribution to the sport will always remain, his superior people-skills will be missed,” concluded Read.
Rob is survived by his loving family which includes his wife, Janet, his son, Matz, his mother, Margaret, his father, Fred – who recently retired as Operations Manager for Sunshine Village – and his brother, Peter, who also coached the Canadian Alpine Ski Team and currently works with the US Ski Team.
In these difficult times, Alpine Canada Alpin and BC Alpine wish to express their deepest sympathies to the Bosinger family on this tragic loss.
The Bosinger family will hold a memorial on May 25, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Mt.
Norquay at the Lodge.
All are invited to attend.
