BC Ski Team's Alison Leighton (Whistler Mountain Ski Club) got her season off to a running start Friday, capturing the bronze medal in Giant Slalom on day two of the Reese Alberta Cup at Panorama Mountain Village. Leighton took command of the challenging hill to finish two runs in a combined time of just 2 minutes, 7.76 seconds, 1.41 seconds off the pace set by the day's winner, Larisa Yurkiw of Ontario (2:06.35) and only .09 seconds behind the silver medalist, Kelly McBroom of Alberta (2:07.67).

“This is a great day for Ali,” exclaimed BC women's coach Nancy O'Neill. There's some good competition here and this is one of her best performances ever. 'Old Timer' [the run] is a fantastic GS hill because it's always changing
