Kelly VanderBeek (Kitchener, ON) was the top Canadian in Friday's downhill competition, grabbing 17th overall, as World Cup alpine ski racing returned to Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria for the first time in eight years. VanderBeek said she felt good about her run, handling the new Klammerstich piste in a time of one minute, 39.06 seconds. Allison Forsyth (Nanaimo, BC) crossed the finish line tied for 20th in a time of 1:39.13. Emily Brydon (Fernie, BC) described her 23rd place finish, in 1:39.20, as not her best race but something she can build on for tomorrow.
