BC's Elli Terwiel posts strong super G result in Italy as top Canadian!

Six of Canada's top 15 and 16 year olds were selected to participate in the Rising Star J1 European Experience Program, a unique opportunity to compete in Europe against some of the world's best skiers in their age category. Elli Terwiel (Sun Peaks Alpine) and Trevor Rose (Windermere Valley Ski Club) are representing BC. Funded by Alpine Canada, these athletes are taking part in a two-week European racing and training tour from Jan. 14th to Feb. 2nd. They are competing in junior events in Italy and Austria, including the Austrian Junior Technical Championships.

The first stop was Castelrotto, Italy for women's super G. Wearing bib number 67, Terwiel moved up 47 spots to finish 20th in her first-ever European FIS race, making her the fastest Canadian of the day! Alberta's Kelly McBroom finished 31st and Ontario's Kate Ryley was 68th. Superb results for all the Canadians, considering the field was over 135 racers deep!

Stay tuned for more results from the Rising Star European tour!
