Blue skies welcomed the athletes on the second day of racing at the Parsons super G in Whistler. Once again, the WMSC team dominated the podium in the overall category as well as the K2 Girls Category. Bryrne Benbow improved on Sunday's performance to take home the Gold on Monday, followed by Brittany McGovern in second and Toria Whitney with another podium run in third place. For the boys, it was K2 athlete Alexander Binks with the fastest time of the day at 1:17.66, followed by Ben MacLean in second and Ian Morrison with his 2nd consecutive Bronze.
The overall Bob Parsons Memorial Plaque was presented to the top female and male athlete with the lowest point total for the two days. J1 athlete Ben MacLean, last year's winner took home his second victory and K2 athlete Brynne Benbow was this year's top female.
Irene Whitney, Chief of Race thanked the many volunteers who came out to support this event, during the weeks prior as well as during the three days of the event. “Record snowfall in January presented some challenges and we thank Whistler/Blackcomb for all the extra grooming that went into preparing the track during the days leading up to the races. We also wish to recognize the efforts of all the racers and coaches who arrived the first day to find the course covered in fresh, soft snow. Together we worked hard that first day to prepare the track, and succeeded in completing two high speed training runs. “
It is hard to imagine a better two days of super G racing that what followed the first day of training. For many racers this was their first exposure to super G racing and it was obvious they were enjoying the challenge. In fact, it was a fun week-end for all, racers and volunteers alike.
Thanks again to everyone who came out to join the team of dedicated volunteers, to the knowledgeable coaches, and to all the racers who showed such a high level of sportsmanship throughout the event.
