Hermann Maier of Austria took the silver on Saturday and Ambrosi Hoffmann of Switzerland the bronze. Canadian Erik Guay just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth. The 24-year-old from Mont-Tremblant, Que., sat in the bronze medal position until Maier, the final skier with a real shot at contending, bumped Guay to fourth. Guay skied with an injured left leg, which caused him to pull out of last Sunday's downhill race. CBC alpine skiing analyst Kerrin Lee-Gartner said Guay had the area just below his knee frozen before Saturday's race to dull the pain.
