Simmerling 9th, Terwiel 15th in Unforgiving Big Mountain Nor Am Super G

The plan Friday was to try for two super G races, but one was all the conditions would allow. The pace was set by Leanne Smith of the USA, who took an early lead in one minute, 18.73 seconds.

Georgia Simmerling of the BC Ski Team and the Grouse Tyee Ski Club clocked the 4th fastest Canadian time and led the BC contingent with a stunning 9th place finish in 1:20.58.

Simmerling’s team-mate Elli Terwiel (Sun Peaks Alpine Club) held on for 15th in 1:21.21.

With a deteriorating track and limited visibility, fewer than half the athletes out of the start gate were able to complete their run.
