Two BC women raced to top-15 finishes in Tuesday’s Nor Am Cup Downhill at Big Mountain, Montana.
Victoria Whitney, a J1 athlete from Whistler and the Whistler Mountain Ski Club, started the day wearing bib number 46, but left no doubt that she belongs with the best when she slaughtered the downhill track in one minute, 7.12 seconds for a 7th place finish. The race was won by Canadian Larisa Yurkiw in 1:06.32. Whitney was the third fastest Canadian and the only J1 in the top-19.
BC Ski Team’s Georgia Simmerling of West Vancouver and the Grouse Tyee Ski Club locked up her 5th top-20 Nor Am finish of the season taking 14 spot in 1:07.86.
The men’s downhill competition was postponed because of fog – watch for it on Wednesday.
