The 2007 MARS K2 Canadian Championships came to an end today in Mont Tremblant, Québec, with the skills event wrapping up five days of competition. Stephanie Marcil of the St-Sauveur Ski Club in Quebec and Ben W. Morse (USA) took finished first, ahead of Madison McLeish and Richard Long.
Combining the five events, McLeish of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club in British Columbia and Long of the Georgian Peaks Ski Club in Ontario were crowned overall champions. Ontario posted the best cumulative results to win the Provincial Cup.
In today’s skills event, Marcil of Quebec crossed the finish line with the fastest Ladies time of 45.11 seconds while Ben W. Morse of the United States of America won the Men’s event stopping the clock at 42.51 seconds while for the gold medals.
McLeish, who finished second in today’s race, capped her week of skiing capturing the highest honour awarded to 13-14 years old ski racers.
“I attained my season long objectives today. I had stepping stones to accomplish before coming here. It was a long road from my first ski run of the season. The competitive level has grown a lot in Canada. I am really happy for me to have won the overall,” said McLeish.
McLeish and Long have qualified to compete for Canada at the Sierra Wireless Whistler Cup as a result of their accomplishments this past week in Mont-Tremblant. In total, Canada will send nine men and nine ladies to the event.
“The Whistler Cup is definitely an event I wanted to attend as I came here. I hope I can make it to a Top 5 as there is great competition from all racers from all over the world attending this event,” continued McLeish.
