On Whistler’s Dave Murray downhill track Tuesday, the sun was shining and so were many of BC’s junior racers.
In the women’s event, Victoria Whitney of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club and the BC Team Training Group put down a showstopper of a run to finish 7th overall behind 6 national team athletes. Whitney was the second fastest junior and the fastest J1 by a long shot!
Also finishing in the top-15 were BC Ski Team members Kelsey Serwa (Big White) and Georgia Simmerling (Grouse Tyee), grabbing 13th and 14th positions respectively.
On the men’s side, Ben Thomsen of the BC Ski Team and the Windermere Valley Ski Club lead BC’s provincial team athletes with a superb 13th place finish making him the second fastest junior in the race.
Finishing not far behind Thomsen in 15th spot was team mate Jonathan Hadley from the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.
Congratulations to BC Team’s Ellie Terwiel (Sun Peaks) who finished the national Pontiac GMC Cup Series in second place behind Marie-Michele Gagnon of Quebec. The completion of today’s Downhill brings to an end all the national championship races at this year’s Pontiac GMC Canadian Championships. However, another FIS race is scheduled for tomorrow to complete the program in Whistler.
