Job Posting - Alpine Canada Alpin in Calgary is seeking Events Coordinator - BC Alpine Ski Association

Reporting structure: This position reports to the Race Events Manager

The Organization: Alpine Canada Alpin is the National Sport Organization for alpine ski racing in Canada. We are responsible for leadership of the Canadian Alpine and Disabled Ski Teams programs, over 500 annual competitions for athletes in international, national and provincial events and programs, in addition to overseeing over 28,000 members in activities ranging from entry level to masters racing across Canada for ages 5 to 80.

The Sport: Canada has a rich tradition in alpine skiing, and for over 40 years Canadians have thrilled our country with medal winning performances. It is a part of our make-up, heritage and culture as Canadians. There are over 250 ski racing clubs in Canada with 4.5 million skiers in Canada. Over 500 alpine ski events are held at ski resorts across the country each winter. Ski racing has the look of a leader – the ultimate family sport in communities across Canada – using leading edge technology in an extremely high profile International and Olympic sport.

The Position: ACA is searching for a Race Events Coordinator to provide operational and promotional support in the execution of National and International events. The Events Coordinator will work closely with the Race Events Manager to increase ACA’s ability to execute the highest quality ski race competitions across the Canada. This person will bring support to two major race series (Pontiac GMC Cup and Northwest Mutual Funds Coupe Nor-Am Cup) in order to fulfill major sponsor obligations.

Terms: This position will be a contract position commencing on Nov 15th, 2007 and finishing May 15th, 2008. Experience and Knowledge will be considered in compensation terms.

Reporting to the Race Events Manager, the primary responsibilities would include:
• To assist Race Organizing Committees (ROC) in delivering events of the highest quality for the competing athletes and quantifiable value to the event sponsors.
• Responsible for the set up, tear down and inventory control of different sponsor materials such as on-course banners, banner frames, inflatable signage and poster distribution at 2007-08 competitions
• Assist Manger in organizing prizing, volunteer / athlete gifts, bibs, gate panels, letterhead and score sheets to the ROC
• Organize daily awards ceremonies with appropriate script, announcer, presenters, medals and awards signage
• Have a clear understanding of all sponsor obligations specific the Pontiac GMC Cups, Northwest Mutual Funds Coupe Nor-AM Cups and Canadian Championships
• Provide one page outline of activities at Team Captain’s Meeting, making announcement and introducing ACA representatives and sponsors on-site
• Available for any hosting events held by sponsor or ROC
• Responsible for shipping of all promotional material pre and post event.
• Work directly with on-site Television crews – introduce to ROC and athletes / coaches, on course positioning and provide appropriate information (start lists, results, etc)
• Working in a team environment on “Off Snow” events such as fundraising dinners, golf tournaments, merchandise sales, and other events directed by management
• Working directly with sponsor representatives throughout the race events
• Working within an established budget set by management
• Help Manage and create travel itinerary for Race Events staff and sponsor materials. Book flights, accommodations, shipments and rentals
• Assist and coordinate storage and storage maintenance
• The job holder should retain a flexible approach to duties and be prepared to undertake other tasks as may be required.

Skills, Education and Experience:
• Post Secondary education or appropriate years experience as it relates to the above
• Proficient computer skills with Office Suite software (Word, Exel, Power Point)
• Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate in French is an asset
• Knowledge of the ski racing industry is an asset
• Intermediate-Expert skiing ability is strongly recommended
