Pontiac GMC Canadian Championships Plagued By Uncooperative Weather - BC Alpine Ski Association

After much effort and many attempts to start the Men’s Downhill Training Thursday, a difficult decision was made to cancel training for the day due to heavy fog and unsafe conditions.  Course staff worked on the piste throughout the morning in an attempt to get the training run off.

“We had an accumulation somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 centimetres of snow overnight and as a result the volunteer crew began working on the course at about 3 a.m. last night. They did an enormous amount of work to get the course prepared and it was ready to go but the mid-mountain fog rolled in over the course shortly after noon,” said Alpine Canada Alpin’s Director of World Cup Events John Cassels, who was on-course throughout the day.  “It was never safe enough to run the course from top to bottom and for that reason we did not run the training today,” Cassels said.

Race organizers decided at a Team Captain’s meeting late today to schedule the Ladies downhill tomorrow at 10 a.m. followed by a Men’s downhill training run at 11 a.m.

Thank you to EVERYONE who pitched in to try to make it go on Thursday – GOOD LUCK tomorrow.
