Come join Manny Osborne Paradis, Mike Janyk and others at the COWBOY Camp
Mike Janyk and I, Manuel Osborne-Paradis are hosting an end-of-the-season ski camp for young ski racers with talent and drive who don’t necessarily have the financial resources to participate in all the summer training required to be an elite athlete. Our goal is to bridge the gap between the competitive season and the summer camps these athletes might normally participate in. We don’t want to take anything away from what their clubs have organized for them; we just want to give the kids something extra to help them reach their potential and achieve their goals. We strongly believe that the best skiers don’t always come from financially fortunate families, but if they have shown drive and dedication, we want to provide them with the platform and environment to succeed. We will offer them an opportunity to ski with Canadian Alpine Ski Team members, to work with highly motivated coaches and learn our enthusiasm, techniques and overall passion for alpine skiing, at no cost to the athletes.
We will be selecting BC athletes born in 1992 and 1993 who show dedication and commitment and also illustrate a need. Athletes who are interested in participating in this opportunity must write a letter not exceeding 250 words explaining why they would like to attend and what they hope to take home from our camp. A coach’s recommendation must also be submitted with the athlete letter. Please submit to the following email address: cowboyscamp@live.com
We want to hear directly from the athlete about why they think they should to ski with us. The goal is to truly get an understanding of the athlete and to really see if they have a passion and commitment to the sport.
The four day ski camp will take place on Whistler/Blackcomb between April 24th and 27th 2008. Athletes must provide their own transportation to Whistler and back to their home. All camp costs will be covered by us. Travel date to the camp is April 23rd 2008.
The camp mornings will consist of very technical training and perhaps getting into some speed aspects with jumps and high speed turns. Only GS and slalom skis are required. The afternoons will be spent free skiing around the mountain and having a good time with us and their friends, working on what we learned in the morning. Following that, we will introduce some very edgy and new training techniques that we have just started doing on the World Cup.
Between 8 and 10 athletes will be selected, with a mix of male and female. This is a great chance to meet and ski with other talented athletes around the province and to see what it takes to become a World Cup athlete. We guarantee a great experience and our biggest goal is to have fun with these kids and show them the sport of alpine skiing from our point of view.
Applications must be submitted by March 8th 2008.
