BC J1 High Performance Group Summer Training PHOTOS

Summer training is well underway for the BC J1 High Performance athletes. We recently returned from our second on-snow camp of the new season at Mt. Hood in Oregon. During the 8-day camp, we logged 2 days of technical free skiing on slalom skis and 6 days of good giant slalom training. The snow was fantastic in spite of very hot temperatures and the good conditions allowed us to maximize the volume and quality of our skiing every day, which is not always the case at this time of year.

Each day also included a dryland session incorporating (fun) relaxation and regeneration activities such as volleyball, basketball, soccer and swimming. We (coaches Gregor Druzina and P.L. Dumoulin) were very happy with the effort put in by all the athletes and the improvements we saw each day throughout the camp.

This week we are in Whistler for fitness testing and more dryland training. There is some serious work being done during the two 3-hour sessions every day! On Saturday everyone is heading to Vancouver Island with P.L. for Dryland Camp Part 2. When that’s done, the athletes will have a short 14 day summer break (no slacking on the individual dryland programs, though) and on August 18th we will travel back to Mt. Hood for 10 days of slalom training. This will be the first time that the whole group is together on snow!  (report from J1 HP coaches Gregor and PL)
