The BC Ski Team is moving into the last four-day block of speed training in Portillo Chile today, to wrap up what has been an outstanding speed camp, to say the least.
Coach Nancy O’Neill quote: “We have been able to set twin super G courses from top to bottom with the US Ski Team World Cup men. This has permitted our athletes to watch some of the premier speed skiers in the world (Sullivan, Nyman, McCartney, Ligety) train on the same terrain in a similar course. The learning curve has been steep!”
Coach Chris Mosaed quote: "Training here has been world class, I’ve never seen anything this good in the Southern Hemisphere. The opportunity to see Ted Ligety and the other guys ski is incredible. The competition is great and everyone is pushing it. Some of the younger guys are catching up to the older ones and everyone is pushing each other and putting in fast times."
The last few days of our time here will take the team into a super G block with short GS sessions attached. Today it’s super G training, with time trials scheduled for Thursday to see who will train super G with the US team on Friday. Then time trails again on Friday to determine who will ski giant slalom with the US Ski Team on Saturday. Fastest two athletes get an amazing opportunity – exciting stuff!
