BC Men’s Team Training Group Report from Head Coach, Jordan Williams
NEW!! See Photos from Mt. Hood HERE
We have just completed our first on-snow training camp in Mt. Hood, Oregon. The conditions and the operation at Timberline created an excellent environment for the Training Team to develop their skills. The weather was clear and the snow pushed back hard against our skis in the prime lane that they had to offer.
The main focus that Jeff MacLennan and I tried to apply during the GS training was for the athletes to respect and apply their efforts towards efficiently utilizing the physical aspects of the equipment that they are on top of. Repeating balanced and well-timed actions to enhance their consistency throughout the courses was the effect that we desired and achieved.
During the three days of Slalom training we took a very similar approach – ‘OLDSCHOOL’ was the theme of this session and it was very effective. Not one cross-blocking attempt was made by the athletes, which showed the coaches that there was a complete buy-in on the idea that it would be a very productive training cell for them. Jeff and I can see that there is still a long way to go before we are ready for the competition season, but we will ensure the time until then is used wisely and effectively.
Dr. Lauren Jones, our Mental Performance Consultant, has proven herself to be an invaluable asset to the team and our mission to give the individual athletes the tools they will require to deal with the rigorous demands that our sport puts on them. We are really looking forward to the next camp where Lauren will be able to further help the racers improve their mental skills and enhance their performances.
The Dryland Camp which will be executed in Whistler from July 11th until August 5th will be filled with a well planned battery of grueling training sessions. Cindy Thompson Med,CSCS,CEP, our Physical Performance Manager, has set up an incredible roster of fun and challenging opportunities for our athletes. The coaches and athletes are ‘super stoked’ to get at it after a brief recovery from our first on-snow camp.
Until then…”Look ahead and keep the P-tex side down!”
