Dryland Testing for BC Ski Team Training Group Athletes
November 14 & 15, 2009 – Whistler, BC

"The normally jagged landscape had been smoothed and softened by a blanket of fresh powder, but even as foot upon foot of fresh snow continued to fall on the mountain, the boys would not be distracted. They were there for one reason: to be tested and proven worthy of wearing the colours of the BC Ski Team.

"Over the course of two days, each athlete would be measured and weighed in a battery of tests ranging from raw power output to short and long term endurance. On the first morning there was an unavoidable sense of nervousness in the air as the boys sat and waited for testing to begin. When the gym doors swung open, they rose to their feet and stepped inside. To their surprise plans had changed. After some deliberation, the powers that be decided to relieve the pressure and announce the team that morning!

"Despite knowing their fates before even starting the tests, the guys battled through as if life itself depended on their results. Needless to say, when the dust had settled all eight of them were still standing and no worse for wear.

"Now, proudly sporting the black and red jackets worn only by BC’s most elite, the fully operational Men’s BC Alpine Ski Team is ready to launch into the competitive season. Representing the very province that raised them, and carrying the same tough love attitude they’ve been trained under, the top of the podium is only a step away."
