November 20, 2009 – BC Men’s Team Coach Jordan Williams reflects on transition from preparation to competition
The competitive season is closing in on us quickly and as usual, you always feel that you need a little more time to be really ready. Tomorrow we get to race up against our National ski team and some of the top provincial skiers as in our country. Jeff (MacLennan) and I have tried hard to instill solid training values into the BC Men’s Team this year and have seen great gains and adaptations in technique, attitude and especially the athletes’ preparation for every training and competitive opportunity.
The main successes we have seen in our athletes have been due largely to living the life they have chosen. Ski racing is a very tough choice among the many life paths that are available, and being fully committed to excelling daily is a very tall order. We believe that when a ski racer makes this "full commitment" to the life of a ski racer, they become the athlete that we can then assist in becoming their own best coach.
The focus that we have applied this season is really quite simple and basic; solid skills will make solid runs. Repeating the right actions as often as possible has been our main push in the training environments.
The pre-competitive season has been quick and effective and we are anticipating some great performances in the season opening NorAm races.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped us in our mission this year especially the ski areas:
-Panorama Mountain Village
-Copper Mountain, Colorado
-Portillo, Chile
-Vale Nevado, Chile
-Mt. Hood, Oregon
Thanks to all – Look Ahead!
Jordan Williams, Head Coach – Men’s BC Ski Team
