The CSA is very saddened to learn of the passing on Thursday, February 18 of Bob Bartley, considered by many to be the one of the originators of the original FIS events points system and the penalty calculations.
Bob was instrumental in the development of competitive ski racing in Western Canada – he created and ran BC High School Ski Programs and races. He was a long time member of the FIS – an Alpine TD from inception of the FIS TD program and served on various FIS Committees and Sub-Committees.
Bob was President of the Western Division of the CSA, was a long time member of the CSA Board of Directors as well as a Vice-President of the CSA. He was responsible for the development of National Rules and system of athlete evaluation. Bob was elected to Canadian Ski Hall of Fame in 1983.
The CSA, BC Alpine and Ski Community send its condolences to Billie Bartley and Bob’s family.
