Janyk 6th in Men’s GS as GMC Canadian Championships Continue at Nakiska | BC Alpine Ski Association

Nakiska, AB (March 29, 2011) – GMC Cup contender Philip Brown (Toronto, ON) placed fourth overall in the giant slalom today, claiming the Junior GMC Canadian Championship giant slalom title and racing ahead in the rankings for the Coupe GMC Cup.

Though Brown’s success has rocketed him forward in the overall Coupe GMC Cup standings, the battle for the lead continues with Montreal-based Jeffrey Frisch (26) and Whistler local Conrad Pridy (23). Frisch’s time of 2.20.67 proved fast enough to earn him a third place finish overall in the GMC Canadian giant slalom event, and top points to propel him forward to first place in the Coupe GMC Cup standings for a second time this week.

“The second run was more challenging, more technical, better for me. It was a little rougher, had a little disadvantage. First run was a lot quicker- but I’m happy with the end result. Of course I would have liked to win,” said a smiling Frisch.

When informed of his move into the lead for the Coupe GMC Cup, Frisch was obviously excited. “It’s always nice to win an overall title, put together from a lot of races- it shows that you are a good skier. It’s nice to be on there with other talented athletes. I hope it’s going to be me!” remained sufficient to remain close behind Frisch in the overall Coupe GMC Cup standings, though it did not land him on the podium.

Frisch, who will not be competing in Thursday’s slalom, is currently leading the standings by a slim margin, leaving the Coupe

Not to be ignored are the consistent efforts of Whistler resident and BC Ski Team athlete Conrad Pridy, whose time of 2.23.46 was sufficient to keep him close behind Frisch in the overall Coupe GMC Cup standings.

Frisch, who will not be competing in Thursday’s slalom, is currently leading the standings by a slim margin, leaving the Coupe GMC Cup up for grabs from either Conrad Pridy or the currently ranked third place Simon-Claude Toutant (Val St.Come, QC).

The winner of the overall Coupe GMC Cup receives five thousand dollars in prize money and joins an impressive group of alumni including CAST team members Marie-Michelle Gagnon (Lac Etchemin, QC) and Ben Thomsen (Invermere, AB).

The GMC Canadian Championships will run till March 31st at Nakiska Ski Resort in Kananaskis.
