Men’s BC Team starts 2012 in Europe for Three Weeks Training and Racing | BC Alpine Ski Association

Men's BC Ski Team Euro Trip 2012

By Coach Dykster

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the BC Ski Team. We started the 2011-2012 season with a bang and look to keep the ball rolling after the new year.

The Team saw some stiff competition in the season openers with a strong European contingent staying to race due to poor snow conditions throughout much of Europe. With many of our start numbers in the 80+ range the boys got a healthy dose of what it is going to be like competing at the next level. Jonathan and I were very encouraged despite their struggles and loved the fact that the boys have embraced the ideology of “each and everyday is an opportunity to learn and improve.” The majority of our team is composed of juniors who are working hard to be competitive with their peers and realize that it is a long road to the top.

It was great watching the success of the Continental Cup Team (lead by Dusan Grasic). The boys have a clear vision of the path that lies ahead and know how much work is required to get there.

Our 2012 campaign begins with three weeks of training and racing throughout Europe. We will be teaming up with the Tiroler Skiverband (Tirol Ski Federation) for training in Stubai before heading off to race in Germany and Austria. During the three week trip will see up to ten starts with our trip concluding at the world famous Kitzbühel downhill. BC Legend, Conrad Pridy, will be getting his first shot at the Streif slope and we will be there cheering him on as he makes all of Canada proud.
