Upbeat BC Team gals make most of Eastern tour & look forward to Panorama | BC Alpine Ski Association

"It’s been two weeks since we left home in attempts of chasing points and snow. Our “out-east adventure” has been filled with disappointing cancellations, spring weather, and communication barriers but we’ve still been able to make the very best of it!

Upon our arrival in Montreal, we raced the Nor-Ams at Mont Garceau and Val Ste Come, then drove to Vermont in hopes of having the entire team race in the two GS’s at Sugarbush. For many, it was our first time racing in the States or in Eastern Canada — our excitement couldn’t be contained! Sadly, the second day of racing in Vermont was cancelled due to rainy weather conditions and it was time to head to Mont Ste Anne for the Nor-Am Downhill.

For the speed portion of the Nor-Ams, we were joined by Rebecca Bermel. It was nice to have a new friendly face at the dinner table but, because of the unfortunate cancellation of all the speed events, Becca went home early. Jocelyn and Becca were real troupers for the four days they tried to run the downhill — alarms went off four-thirty in the morning for seemingly nothing! Good job to those two for staying strong for those tough few days.

While Becca and Jocelyn spent their time focusing on the Downhill, the rest of the girls trained GS and SL on the northern face of Mont Ste Anne with head coach Gregor. The snow was fairly slushy, but the sunny skies were greatly appreciated!

Friday was the Nor-Am Finals Ladies’ Slalom. Due to aggressive salting the day before, the snow was rock solid — nothing like we had ever seen before. We did our very best to attack from the (very) back of the pack with our best finisher being Charley Field who ended up 38th. We would all like to send out a big congrats to Elli Terwiel for winning the Nor-Am Slalom title as well as Conrad Pridy for coming 2nd in the Nor-Am Downhill standings.

We are looking forward to another day of SL as well as the upcoming Miele Series in Panorama!"
