Whistler, BC (June 22, 2012) – On July 22nd, Fast and Female will travel up to join the Whistler Alpine Ski Club and BC Alpine for an afternoon of boisterous motivation and spirit. Entering its 8th year since its inception, Fast and Female is a non-profit organization that was created by 2006 Olympic gold medalist in cross country skiing Chandra Crawford. The organization is committed to empowering young women in their pursuit of excellence as competitive athletes. Studies have shown that girls and women who play sports have higher levels of confidence, self esteem and a more positive body image than those who do not. From 2 to 4:30 pm at the Ski Club, girls ages 9-19 and involved in all sports are invited to an afternoon of team-building exercise, dryland training, inspirational talk, dance, and autograph signing sessions. Ambassadors for this event include Olympians Allison Forsyth, Anna Goodman and Shona Rubens. Before retiring in 2008, Forsyth (Vancouver, BC) achieved five World Cup podiums in giant slalom and also claimed bronze at the 2003 World Championships in the same discipline. Goodman (Mont-Tremblant, QC), who recently retired, achieved a career best 9th place in a World Cup slalom in Are, Sweden in 2009. Rubens (Canmore, AB), also an alumnus of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team, holds six National titles won between 2007 and 2009 in Slalom, Super G and Downhill. Goodman and Rubens will already be on site as they will be running their inaugural Ski Sisters alpine ski racing camp the week prior to the event. All three ladies are excited to share their experience with up-and-comers next month. “I'm very excited for the Whistler Fast and Female event,” said Goodman. “Each event I have been part of has left me feeling inspired and full of giggles. I love dancing, I love laughing and I love finding and seeing the shared passion for sports that bonds us all. I'm excited to relay the positive Fast and Female messages to the the "Ski Sisters Camp" and to all the other girls from around Whistler who love to do sports and be active! I can't wait to see everyone out there,” she concluded. BC Alpine will be closely involved with Fast and Female to make it an unforgettable day, according to BC Alpine Program Director, Nigel Cooper. “July 22nd is going to be a great day of sisterhood at Whistler Mountain Ski Club. “We look forward to seeing all our young ladies coming together from across the province to work out, sing, dance and play in the mountains,” said Cooper. Cost for the event is $25 and participants will receive a Fast and Female t-shirt and buff, a snack, and a Pedal or SkiTrax Magazine subscription. Registration is on until July 21st at noon and participants can register at http://ffjuly22whistler.eventbrite.com/. Fast and Female would like to thank local sponsors BC Alpine, Rio Tinto Alcan, and the Whistler Mountain Ski Club, as well as its Canadian national sponsors including Best Buy, Cold-FX, Clarins, Karbon, Buff, Champion System, lululemon athletica, LUNA Bars, LIT Glitter, SAUCE Headwear, and SkiTrax/Pedal Magazines.
