BC Alpine Brings Back Familiar Face to Lead Athletic Programs | BC Alpine Ski Association

The BC Alpine Ski Association is happy to announce the appointment of Gordie Bowles as Athletic Director, effective September 10, 2012.

As the former BC Alpine Program Director from 2001-06 and as a short-term contractor in 2009-10 — as well as a being a former coach of the men’s BC Ski Team — Gordie knows his way around the province and is “looking forward to getting reacquainted with the provincial system and to assist in creating world-class opportunities for our athletes and clubs.”

Gordie will be responsible for overseeing all athletic programs in the province, including high performance and athlete development initiatives, as well as long term development planning and liaising with other sport governing bodies. He will also work closely with the BC Ski Team head coaches and oversee the BC Alpine Club Development Coordinator Justine Parent, in her role of supporting club grassroots programs.

“The ski clubs in B.C. and the provincial teams have produced some of the finest skiers in Canada, many who continued on to international success,” said the 41-year-old. “With some of the best mountains and ski resorts in the world, a strong club system and dedicated volunteers, we are in a terrific position to take the next step in creating programs that produce more champions while helping instill a life-time passion for skiing for all BC Alpine families.”

Having spent most of the past six years working in the ski media business, particularly as the editor-in-chief of S-Magazine and formerly SRC Magazine, Gordie feels his connection to the sport through media has helped him keep a close watch on the progression of the sport as well as given him perspective on other sport systems.

“We are excited to have Gordie return to BC Alpine", says CEO Bruce Goldsmid. Gordie has had a love of ski racing all his life and his experience working with athletes and programs will be a huge asset to our organization and ski clubs in BC.”

Gordie will begin in the BC Alpine Vancouver office Monday, Sept. 10th and is available at GordieB@BCalpine.com or in the office at (604) 678-3072 at that point and beyond.
